Horsforth Community Cafe celebrated it’s 10th birthday on Monday 15th June with a special menu, a chocolate raffle, a quiz, plus a wonderful birthday cake made and donated by Truly Scrummy ! Cllr Simon Dowling, leader of Horsforth Town Council, cut the first slice, the cake was then shared amongst all our customers. On Thursday 16th April a group of refugees and asylum seekers gathered with invited guests and volunteers at Holy Name Church for inspiring presentations and a tasty lunch, to celebrate 11 trainees successfully completing the ‘Finding Your Voice’ programme. The course concluded with moving and inspiring moments, as each of the trainees gave a short talk, covering a range of topics including sharing their own personal stories, or giving an insight into their countries of origin and cultures: this was the culmination of five weeks of training delivered every Thursday to build confidence in public speaking in English, and presenting to audiences. Hundreds of people gathered on Good Friday for our Walk of Witness down Town Street following the cross, and we were led through a moving reflection on the seven last words of Jesus by Fr Michael Doody of St Mary’s, and readers from seven different churches.
