Thankful for the better weather this year, the team swung into action and there was a wonderful atmosphere as an estimated more than 800 people gathered to enjoy singing well-known carols and listen to a short service of blessing, ably accompanied by ‘The Stroke of Genius Big Band’, as well as being served a warm drink and a mince pie! Horsforth Town of Sanctuary has recently received the prestigious Jo Cox Award at Leeds Council’s Compassionate City Awards ceremony. The Award was given in recognition of the diverse group raising awareness in the community and offering support to people seeking asylum and refugees in many different ways. On Saturday lots of people enjoyed walking through the ‘Festival of Angels’ at Grove Church – a combination of nearly 30 Angels or groups of angels made by Community Groups, together with over 1,000 paper angels strung from the ceiling and around the church – a veritable ‘heavenly host’ experience!
