Horsforth Farmers Market celebrated its’ 10th birthday on Saturday 1st October!
The market organised by Horsforth Churches Together was originally just planned as a one off Harvest Celebration, but was so popular that the organising group decided to keep it going. With up to 23 food and drink stalls each month it has continued to be enjoyed and well supported by the Horsforth community with July’s annual footfall count showing 1020 people attending.
People don’t just come for the delicious food but also enjoy coming for the community atmosphere and the chance to connect with one another.
The Horsforth Matters stall hosts a local group each month so they can promote their ideas. One such project is the Horsforth Community Garden who were one of the four projects to receive a small grant this Saturday as the not for profit market distributed its surplus cash back into community activities. One of the Community Garden organisers said,
“over half of our present volunteers were recruited when we were on the Horsforth Matters Stall. It is such a great place to make connections.”
Other groups which benefited were Foodbank, OLK Friends of Refugees Group and St Margaret’s School charity of the year Give a Child a Hope.
The 10th birthday celebrations were enriched by live music from Dave Prater, the sharing of cake and an interactive children’s quiz all about the Market. Why not have a go yourself – see how many you know??
