‘During the period before a General Election, churches and community organisations often organise election meetings (sometimes known as hustings) where members of the public can listen to and ask questions of the candidates who are standing for election. They do this as a public service, to support the democratic process, to facilitate public debate and as a contribution to the common good. This opportunity for respectful discussion in a neutral space is often appreciated by candidates as well as voters.’ (taken from Hustings Guidance for Churches on Together Network)
New Constituency Boundaries
Leeds North West is a new constituency, bringing together Otley and Yeadon, Guiseley and Rawdon, Adel and Wharfedale, and Horsforth.
The shake-up comes after a boundary review in 2023, which aimed to make sure each constituency had a similar population. The Pudsey constituency – which previously included Aireborough and Horsforth – will effectively cease to exist when voters go to the polls on July 4.

THOMAS AVERRE
CONSERVATIVE AND UNIONIST PARTY
Message on his Facebook:
Hello, my name is Thomas Averre
I’m standing to be your next MP because I think we need more entrepreneurs in Parliament that understand how to grow the economy and get things done. I’ve spent my career working in the life sciences sector before setting up my own small business.
I want to use my experience and knowledge to represent you in Parliament. I will be your voice in Westminster and locally – fighting to protect our greenbelt and to continue investing in our transport infrastructure.
The Conservatives have a clear plan that includes:
· Securing family budgets by cutting National Insurance, the unfair double tax on work.
· Securing pensions by guaranteeing the Triple Lock Plus.
· Securing our nation by increasing defence spending to 2.5% of GDP.
· Securing an affordable transition to net zero without it costing you more.
· Securing our borders by stopping the boats.
I have six key local priorities for our constituency, which I look forward to sharing with you over this election campaign.
If you want to get in touch with me please email office@leedsnorthwestconservatives.com or message me through this Facebook page.

Part of statement on the above page: “With Green MPs in Parliament and a decent vote across the country, a middle-of-the-road Labour Government could be held to account more effectively. Greens can appeal across the political spectrum to conservation-minded, nature-loving Conservatives and Labour supporters unhappy about its centralism and lack of commitment to radical policies on energy-efficient, low-bill homes, renewable energy supply, basic income guarantee, and voting reform.
I would anticipate running targeted campaigns across the Leeds NW constituency that recognise different voter concerns, utilising local knowledge and support.”

Statement from Party from Facebook Page
Our core policy for Yorkshire is one of devolution.
In 2023, the public spending in London and Scotland was £14,500 per person, according to HM Treasury figures. But in Yorkshire it was just £11,900 per person – that’s a shortfall of over £14 billion across Yorkshire – in just one year.
To get our fair share and improve the quality of life for the people of Yorkshire, we support new powers and a strong voice for Yorkshire. A regional Yorkshire Parliament, with similar powers and guaranteed funding to those in Wales and Scotland, will make Yorkshire an equal partner, in a stronger and fairer UK. We support PR. This would give the people of Yorkshire a regional parliament that would properly represent their views. Westminster is broken. It’s time for Yorkshire to take control of its own affairs and get its fair share of funding.

Quote from newspaper article in Wharfedale Observer
Ryk said: “It’s a great honour to have been chosen as a candidate to represent the diverse communities of Adel, Aireborough, Bramhope, Cookridge, Horsforth, Otley, and Pool. Despite this diversity, sometimes our area feels left out and I want to change that.
I aim to get a fair deal for the new Leeds North West Constituency! This includes taking action to protect our rivers, campaigning for more doctors and dentists, demanding improvements to local transport services, investing in our schools, committing to ensuring the police visit every victim of crime, and protecting the pension triple lock which the Liberal Democrats introduced.”
