With music from Steel Concordia and Horsforth Choral Society, come and get into the Christmas spirit and find good products for the season. As usual the Nativity stable will be making an appearance.

What is is really like to feel for your life and seek sanctuary in the U.K.? What can we all do to help? Come along to hear personal stories from those seeking sanctuary, and an update on the national situation – light refreshments provided.

For this last concert of 2023, we welcome the Arian Flute Trio – An exciting flute trio made up of graduates from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama who enjoy performing a variety of music from quintessential baroque flute trios to quirky modern pieces.

Bring your clothes – to swap in the clothes swap, or donate (men’s clothing) for local refugees (more details on what is needed HERE). Got clothes that need mending? No problem – bring them along to be stitched up! Plus .. swap School Uniform, make a pan scourer from fruit plastic mesh bags or learn about natural nappies! Not forgetting the regular repair cafe next door in the Parish Centre. This is a Horforth Climate Action event.

Seaside Rock Holiday Club at Lister Hill Baptist – 7th -11th August (FULLY BOOKED)
A fun week for ages 5-12 (up to yr. 7), Mon 7th Aug to Fri 11th Aug 8.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.
The holiday club will have crafts, games, music, dance, outing (on the Wednesday), talks, quizzes, picnics in the park and lots more fun…Cost is just £30 per child for the week or £25 per child for family discount. Day rate £7.50.
On Friday 11th August: We will be having the End of holiday club celebration for all the family: so please come join us from Midday with barbeque etc.

Free online Lecture Series by Leeds Trinity University, next one Mon 24th July on Art as Encounter
The aim of our inaugural lecture series ‘Beyond the Dark Clouds’ is to support the university, with its Catholic roots, to have a voice in the public square about justice, law-enforcement, the police, the nature of education, business ethics, spirituality, leadership and contemplation and the arts.

Sunday 23rd July 2pm at St James’ – St James’ Day Cream Tea followed by Civic Service at 4pm
St James’ is celebrating a 175-year anniversary this year and the Civic Service is incorporated into those celebrations. They are hosting a St James’ Day Cream Tea from 2pm until 4pm in the St James’ Parish Centre (adjacent the church). This will provide an opportunity for visitors to hear updates about and see the progress of the Horsforth Shed, which was officially opened during the Civic Service in 2021. The Civic Service will then follow at 4pm and they invite those who’ve enjoyed tea and scones to join the service, together with local councillors.

Friday 21st July 6.45pm Grove Cinema – ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’
Whitney Houston, a talented young singer, sings in her church choir. However, her life changes when a record producer attends one of her performances and offers her a recording contract. This film is a joyous, emotional, heartbreaking celebration of the life and music of Whitney Houston, one of the greatest female R&B pop vocalists of all time, tracking her journey from obscurity to musical super stardom.

We are sorry to say good-bye to Rachel as her curacy finishes at St Margaret’s Church mid June, but she won’t be far away! A warm welcome to all to join in with her special service of induction at St Peter’s Rawdon on Weds 5th July at 7pm. Parking is available at the school just up the road from the church.

The Grove Cinema Next free Film Night Friday 19th May 6.45pm The Notebook
Being shown as part of Dementia Awareness Week
At a modern-day nursing home, an elderly man named Duke reads a romantic story from his notebook to a female patient. It’s one of our ways of celebrating Easter and God’s love of fun. There’ll be prizes of sweets for egg finders, a chocolate tombola, Easter crafts and refreshments and a chance to meet the characters from the Easter story.
You won’t need money for the Hunt or drinks – you’ll need it only if you go to the cake stall or try your luck at the tombola! We’ll be going ahead whether it’s rain or shine – but we’re hoping for great Spring weather!’

This film is the follow up to the 2019 hit UK film Fisherman’s Friends about the famous sea shanty singing group from Port Isaac, Cornwall.
After the success of their first album, the Fisherman’s Friends struggle to adjust to their new-found fame and work towards a second album.
